Al Maroona Beach: One of the best beaches in the north of Qatar

Al Maroona Beach in Qatar is one of the popular beaches frequented by locals and expats alike. Located on the northern coast of Qatar, it is near Fuwairit Beach and offers a place to relax and unwind.

Beachgoers either go for a few hours or stay for the night by camping or renting a campervan/caravan/cabin. If you’re looking for a beach to visit outside of Doha with your family or friends, check out below what you can expect at Al Maroona Beach.

Al Maroona Beach Caravan/Cabin experience

The last time I visited this beach was during my previous work’s company outing/team building. We stayed for several hours and the company rented a caravan.

I found the sand soft, fine, and light golden while the water was clear enough at close look. However, we had to walk a bit far before the water got deep enough for swimming.

The campervan had an airconditioned bedroom, a small seating area and a toilet/shower. Attached to it, there’s also a hose that you can use to wash sand off your feet before entering the cabin.

Outside the caravan, there’s a spacious covered seating area with artificial grass carpet where people can relax and gather. There are also small tables plus a small area with lights where you can light a bonfire.

Transportation

Getting to Al Maroona Beach is easy enough if you have your transportation by taking Al Shamal Road. However, it’s highly recommended that you bring a 4×4 especially if you want to drive further near the water. You can still take a sedan but be careful not to drive in the soft sand.

Parking: Sandy area (no designated cemented parking area)

Best time to visit

Visitors usually visit in the afternoon when the sun is less harsh and most of them leave after sunrise. Al Maroona Beach is a popular place to watch the sunrise. Take note though that the water level is usually low during this time of day.

Beach Features

The natural beauty of Al Maroona Beach is one of the biggest reasons why it draws a lot of visitors. Its golden sand is soft to the touch and the water is usually shallow and clear. However, some parts of the water are rocky so it is best to wear aqua/water shoes.

Beachgoers have seen marine life like crabs, sea cucumbers, starfish, small fishes, and small clams. There are also plenty of seaweed depending on the time of year.

Facilities and Services

Al Maroona Beach is a public beach. Unlike other beaches like Al Wakrah Family Beach, there’s not much in terms of facilities. There are no toilets and shower. There are also no food stalls or restaurants in the beach.

There are several trash bins in the beach area although we still saw a lot of litter in the water and sand.

Camping

Although many campervans/caravan/cabin rentals can be found on the beach, a lot of beachgoers choose to bring their camping gear. This includes tents, changing rooms, lights, chairs, and barbecue facilities. Please make sure to dispose properly of your trash.

Entrance Fee

There is no entrance fee required to enter the beach.

Overall, Al Maroona Beach is a great place to spend a day (or overnight) relaxing, swimming, and enjoying the natural beauty of Qatar’s coastline.
