Getting into intermittent fasting and intuitive eating means I have to be mindful now on what I eat. Doha‘s food scene has made me gain weight this past year and so I had to make a conscious effort now to stay away from buffets. But when Intercontinental Doha The City invited me to their Seafood Night relaunch, I just couldn’t say no.
With an even bigger selection at their relaunched seafood night, it can definitely get over-whale-ming. So I compiled these highlights to help you which ones to try first. Dive in!

Make your own ceviche
In my experience here in Doha, when ceviche is present in the buffet, it is already mixed and marinated beforehand. This time, I got to try selecting which ingredients to put in my ceviche and have it mixed on-the-spot thanks to one of The Square’s chefs.
The result? Freshly made ceviche! Nom.
2. Personalise your fish
Any-fin is possible in their live cooking station where you can select your preferred cooking style for your choice of fish. You can even select which marination and dip to choose!
3. Take the bait
Aside from the plentiful seafood on display at the buffet areas, there are other catches you need to try from the ala carte menu like the Tagliatelle Vongole, Seared Scallop, Seafood Thermidor, and Crispy Potato Crusted Hammour with Rocca Sabayon. But my choice was definitely the Squid Ink and Lemon Risotto.
Sitting on a bed of pitch black risotto, colored by squid ink, are asparagus and lobster pieces. The dish was creamy, sweet, and savory at the same time with the lemon complementing the umami taste of the squid ink.
You really have to try it yourself. I ain’t squiding!
4. Fish Shawarma and Squid Ink Pizza
Being in a Middle East country, you can find Shawarma everywhere. But not every day do you get to try a fish shawarma!
Instead of the usual meats, The Square placed Hamour fish fillet on a vertical rotating spit and served it in a wrap sliced into bite-sized pieces. Something new indeed.
However, I find that the fish shawarma was on the dry side and could definitely use more seasonings and condiments.
Another novelty you’ll find in the seafood buffet is the thin crust seafood pizza. What makes it unique? Its black color thanks to squid ink!
It was a good appetizer but additional flavors could definitely be added to elevate the taste of the pizza.
5. Aw, shucks!
At their raw oyster bar, you don’t have to pull a mussel for their chef will shuck the oysters for you so all you have to do is garnish (or not) and slurp them down. Here’s something to read if you’re not quite sure what’s the right way to eat an oyster.
6. Lay me down on a bed of smoked fish
One of the displays that first caught my attention was the artfully laid assortment of smoked fish that looked like a flat lay lover’s dream. It was like a painting that you can eat. And I sure did feast on the smoked salmon!
7. Leave room for dessert/s
The desserts where what actually greeted me upon entrance to The Square. And I tried my best to calm down my sweet tooth and save the sweets for last.
Aside from fruits, I went for the citrus-based desserts to help cleanse my palette. I loved the Lime Cheesecake, Baked Lemon Tart, Green Apple Mousse with Pulp, and Pistachio Mousse. Among those I tried, the meringue was the only one I found to be a tad too sweet for my liking. But I guess it doesn’t hurt since it was in a small bite size.
8. There are definitely plenty of fish in the sea-ty (City)
I loved how the layout of The Square helps me walk in between the food stations. That way, I felt like I had more time in between bites.
Aside from the ones mentioned above, they sure do have a lot of catch for you to choose from. Plenty of choices of salads, starters, appetizers, main dishes, and desserts.
Those that caught my eye and others I’ve tried are Fish Trabolsia, Sweet & Sour Calamari Salad, Octopus Greek Salad, Prawn Salad, Salmon & Mango Lettuce Tacos, Shanghai Noodle Salad, Sushi and Sashimi, Fish & Chips, Salmon Quiche, Teriyaki Glazed Salmon Fillet, Shrimp Croquette, Hamour Paupiette with Lemon Buerre Blanc, and Seafood Chowder.
Whether you’re craving for seafood or you’re on a see food (I see food, I eat it) diet, you’ll definitely get hooked on #ICDohaTheCity’s Seafood Night.
