Last Eid holiday, we ventured out to visit this new mall to escape from the heat and to find something new to see in Doha, Qatar. Check out what are things you can expect in Tawar Mall!
Our #1 agenda in this mall was actually to try out Joe’s Crab Shack. However, as we were walking around to get to the restaurant, we were amazed to find a waterfall made with lights at the elevators. It definitely attracted everyone because of its colourful LED display.
The mall, which had its soft opening last September 2017, will have 312 shops and restaurants on its four floors and will also include a 122 rooms boutique hotel with a pool. Tawar Mall will also open 12 cinema screens soon.
Outdoor Musical Water Fountain
After walking around, we finally stumbled on the mall’s piece de resistance – its 600 square meters outdoor water fountain with light and sound show. The presence of the water made the otherwise humid night a cooler one.
I imagine this would be an even more popular spot when winter comes. On each side of the fountain are cafes and restaurants overlooking the fountain.
Joe’s Crab Shack
Walking past the fountain finally brought us to our 1st agenda – a bucket of crabs at Joe’s Crab Shack. This is the first branch in Doha of the American seafood chain.
All the decorations inside the restaurant are enough to keep you busy while waiting for the food. And if you ever get bored while dining, fret not for the service staff will suddenly get up to the front and dance.
The Ragin Cajun steam pot we ordered was definitely enough for the both of us. We left the restaurant with our tummies full and our cravings satisfied.
Bounce
The first trampoline park in Doha, Bounce, opened in 2017 and is also said to be the largest of its kind in the Middle East.
It is heaven for adrenaline junkies and the colorful urban playground is open both for kids and adults. The 4,000 sqm area features not just trampolines, but also a challenge course similar to Ninja Warrior as well as cage football, wall running, dodgeball, Slam Dunk, zip line, and more.
Opening hours: 10:00 AM –10:00 PM (Sat-Wed), 10:00 AM-12:00 AM (Thurs – Fri)

Old Souq
Walking around the luxury food court to lessen the calories we consumed, we oohed and ahhed at the “Instagrammable” small cafe and shops we passed by. Intrigued by the “Old Souq” sign and the traditional vibe, we went inside and was amazed that they managed to put up a souq inside the mall, complete with its own small fountain!
Although all of the shops are still not yet open, I did enjoy the framed photos of Qatar’s past and the old world feel.
When we got hungry again, we couldn’t resist Churro Mia’s charms and stopped by for some churros and Karak.
Instagrammable Cafes and Restaurants
Aside from the ones at the food court, we also passed by a few colourful coffee shops that beckoned us to go inside. Too bad, I don’t drink coffee anymore.
But indeed, it seems that competition is getting tougher and tougher these days because of the need to be “Instagrammable” or worthy of posting in social media. I just hope that the beautiful interiors will always match the quality and taste of food and service.
SPAR
What’s a mall without a supermarket? Aside from the usual Carrefour and Megamart that we usually go to in the malls, Tawar Mall has SPAR Hypermarket. This is the second branch in Doha.
