Tax Refund in Singapore for Tourists

Are you planning to shop during your Singapore trip? As a tourist in Singapore, you may be eligible for a tax refund on your purchases made during your stay. The Singaporean government offers this incentive to encourage tourism and boost the economy. This refund applies to both goods and services, with certain restrictions and requirements.

To qualify for the tax refund, you must be a non-resident of Singapore and have spent at least S$100 (including GST) at a participating retailer. It’s important to note that NOT ALL RETAILERS participate in the tax refund scheme, so be sure to look for the Tax-Free Shopping logo displayed at the store. (For example: Global Blue or Global Tax Free)

Only goods that are meant for personal use or consumption and services that are directly related to the goods purchased are eligible for tax refund. Some examples of eligible goods include clothing, electronics, and souvenirs, while eligible services include repair and alteration services for the goods purchased.

It is important to note that certain goods and services are excluded from the Tourist Refund Scheme, such as tobacco products, liquor, and goods purchased for business or commercial purposes.

In conclusion, understanding the eligibility criteria and eligible goods and services for tax refund in Singapore can help you make the most of your shopping experience in the country. Make sure to keep your receipts and present them at the TRS counter before you depart from Singapore to claim your tax refund.
